Terms of Service
Effective October 30, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Salt N Bean (“we”) for using saltnbean.com (the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
The Service
Salt N Bean uses AI to develop original recipes, recreate (“dupe”) menu items, estimate costs and nutrition, make weekly specials for food businesses, and audit menu pricing. Features and limits depend on your plan and may change as we improve the Service.
Through Salt N Bean Café, customers can also design custom drinks and order them for pickup from independent cafés (“Cafés”) that list their own ingredients, equipment and prices. Salt N Bean provides the software that connects customers and Cafés. We don't make, sell or serve drinks ourselves.
Your account
- You must be at least 13 to use the Service, and at least 18 (or the age of majority where you live) to buy a subscription.
- Give us an email address you control and keep your password secure. You're responsible for activity on your account.
- One person per account. If you run a business, you may use your account for that business.
Plans, billing and cancellation
- Free accounts include a small number of recipes to try the Service.
- Paid plans are subscriptions billed in advance, monthly or yearly, through Stripe, and renew automatically until you cancel. Prices and what each plan includes are shown on the Billing page before you buy.
- Plans include monthly allowances (for example recipes, refinements, menu audits and invoice scans) as fair-use limits. Unused allowances don't roll over.
- You can cancel anytime from Billing. Cancelling stops future charges; you keep access until the end of the period you've paid for.
- Payments are non-refundable, including for partial periods, except where the law requires a refund.
- If we change a plan's price, we'll tell you before it applies to you, and you can cancel before it does. Founding Kitchen members keep their founding price for as long as their subscription stays active.
- Taxes may be added where required.
AI-generated content: please read
Recipes, costs, prices, nutrition, labels, weekly specials, menu audit results and other output are generated by AI and estimated from typical data. They can be wrong. In particular:
- Allergies and dietary needs. Always check every ingredient and product label yourself. Don't rely on the Service to keep anyone safe from an allergen.
- Food safety. Follow safe food-handling practices, cooking temperatures and storage times, and your local food-safety rules.
- Nutrition and health. Nutrition figures are estimates and nothing in the Service is medical or dietary advice. Talk to a qualified professional about your health needs.
- Costs and prices. Ingredient costs, margins and suggested prices are estimates. Check them against your own suppliers and market before making business decisions.
You're responsible for how you use the output, including anything you make, serve or sell.
Your content and recipes
You own what you put into the Service and the recipes we develop for you, and you may use them, including commercially (for example on your menu). You give us permission to store and process your content only as needed to run and improve the Service, as described in our Privacy Policy. AI can produce similar results for different people, so we can't promise a recipe is unique to you.
Unless you turn off “Use my anonymized activity to improve recipes” in Preferences, you also let us use your ratings, feedback, “I made this” answers and how you use recipes, without your name or contact details, to improve recipes for everyone, including showing a recipe people loved to the AI as an example. You can turn this off at any time.
When you share a recipe or audit link, anyone with the link can view the shared page. Only upload content you have the right to use, such as your own menu, invoices and photos.
Dupes and other brands
Dupes are original recipes inspired by publicly available descriptions of menu items. They aren't the original recipes, and Salt N Bean isn't affiliated with or endorsed by the restaurants or brands mentioned. Brand and product names belong to their owners. If you sell a dupe, use your own name for it, not the original brand's.
Café orders
If you order a drink through Salt N Bean Café:
- The Café is the seller. Each Café is an independent business, not part of Salt N Bean. The Café sets its prices, makes your drink, hands it to you, and is responsible for its quality, its ingredients and how it's prepared.
- Allergies. Allergen information comes from what each Café tells us about its own ingredients, and drinks are made in kitchens where cross-contact can happen. If you have an allergy or a dietary need, tell the Café at pickup and ask before you drink. Never rely on the Service alone to keep you safe.
- AI-designed drinks. Drinks are designed by AI using only the ingredients the Café lists, then checked by our software. Taste is personal and Cafés may make small changes (for example if they run out of something). We can't promise you'll like a drink.
- Pickup. Collect your order from the Café when it's ready. If you don't pick it up, the Café doesn't have to refund you.
- Refunds. If a Café rejects your order or doesn't accept it in time, you're refunded in full automatically. For any other problem with a drink, contact the Café first; Cafés decide refunds for their own drinks, and we'll help where we reasonably can.
- Rewards and reviews. Stamp card rewards are offered by each Café and may change or end. Ratings and reviews you leave are your own opinions; keep them honest and respectful.
Café partners
If you run a Café that sells through Salt N Bean Café, you agree that:
- You're the seller of every drink you make, and responsible for it: preparing it safely, the ingredients you use, its quality, and serving it to the customer.
- You keep your ingredient list, allergens, equipment, prices and opening hours accurate, and switch off anything you've run out of. Allergen information we show comes from what you tell us.
- You check each AI-designed drink before you make it, and reject or adjust any drink you can't make safely or well.
- You follow every law that applies to your business, including food-safety rules, permits, health codes, labeling and allergen rules, employment rules and taxes. You're responsible for collecting and paying sales tax on your drinks.
- Customer payments go to your own Stripe account, under Stripe's Connected Account Agreement. You're responsible for refunds, chargebacks and disputes on your sales. Our commission and any membership fee are as agreed when you join, and our commission is returned when an order is refunded in full.
- We may pause or remove a Café that breaks these terms, puts customers at risk, or gets repeated serious complaints.
Payments
Payments for plans and Café orders are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. Stripe's own terms apply to payments it processes, and we aren't responsible for errors, delays or holds caused by Stripe or your bank.
Acceptable use
Don't:
- break the law, infringe others' rights, or upload content you don't have the right to use;
- try to get around plan limits, access other people's accounts or data, or disrupt the Service;
- scrape the Service, use automated tools to create content in bulk, or resell access without our permission;
- use the Service to create harmful content.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms, and will tell you why where we can.
Ending your account
You can stop using the Service and ask us to delete your account at any time by emailing hello@saltnbean.com. We may end or suspend access if you break these terms or if we stop offering the Service; if we stop the Service, we'll give you reasonable notice and a chance to save your recipes.
Cooking and food carry risks
Cooking, baking and making drinks involve real risks, such as burns, cuts, hot liquids, foodborne illness and allergic reactions. You choose what to make, eat, drink, serve or sell, and you accept those risks. Use your own judgment, and stop if something in a recipe or drink seems wrong or unsafe.
Things outside our control
The Service relies on other companies, including payment processing, AI models, hosting, maps and email. We aren't responsible for their outages or mistakes, or for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control, such as internet or power outages, natural disasters, or actions by governments or other third parties. We also aren't responsible for what Cafés, customers or other users do.
Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We don't promise the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Salt N Bean won't be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue or data, arising from your use of the Service. Nor will we be liable for any injury, illness, allergic reaction or loss arising from food or drinks that you, a Café or anyone else made, served or sold, or from the acts of Cafés, customers or other third parties. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (for a Café, the commission and fees you paid us), or $50 if that's more. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn't allow us to limit, such as for our own fraud or gross negligence. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
Indemnity
If someone makes a claim against us because of content you uploaded, how you used the Service's output (including food you made, served or sold), or your breaking these terms, you agree to cover our reasonable costs of that claim, to the extent the law allows. If you're a Café, this includes claims about drinks you made or sold, the ingredient and allergen information you gave us, and your taxes, refunds and chargebacks.
Changes, law and contact
We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top and, for significant changes, tell you by email or in the Service before they take effect; continuing to use the Service after that means you accept them. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and disputes will be handled in the state or federal courts located in California. If part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
